This is a nice little Windows tweaker put out, but not supported,
by Microsoft. |

Atomic
Clock Sync
Keep your computers clock synchronized with atomic clocks around
the world. This is a free utility. It synchronizes your computer
clock with various atomic clock servers from around the world. This
is one of the first utilities I put on a computer. |

WinZip
This is pretty much the default Zip and Un-Zip program. There
are some diehards that still swear by PK
Zip, but I prefer WinZip. |
| |
|
|
Adobe
Reader
Formally Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is especially for viewing forms
that are posted on various sites across the Web. Such as government
sites, employment and job search sites, and educational sites. |

Root SpySweeper
Spyware grows more sophisticated every day. There's more of it,
and it's more malicious than ever before. Experts agree: Webroot
Spy Sweeper delivers the most advanced spyware detection, blocking
and removal available to beat dangerous spyware programs. |

|
|
AdAware
Here is a nice piece of software to help keep advertising software
and cookies off your computer. I use it in conjunction with the
next download to really make sure there is no advertising software
on my machine. |
| |
|
|
SpyBot
Search & Destroy
I use this program with the one above to make sure there are no
advertising programs or malicious cookies on my machine.
What Is Advertising Soft Ware?
If you surf the Internet I can guarantee that you have some
sort of advertising soft ware on your machine. Advertising
software is software, or cookies, that report back to the
originator of the soft ware where you go and what you spend
time on when your on the Internet.
Advertising soft ware is different than viruses and many
of them do little harm other than take up a little bandwidth.
Other can be quite malicious and hi-jack your home or start
page, take over as the default search engine, or take up
so much bandwidth as to slow down your Internet connection.
Therefore, I make running these two pieces of software part
of my general
computer maintenance plan. Along with a good virus protection,
which is next on the download list. |

AVG
Anti-Virus
Here is great anti-virus program, and not just because it's free(for
personal use). It works great, it has an automatic update scheduler,
it does e-mail, and everything else a good anti-virus program
should. |

Computer
Profiler
What do you want to know about your computer? Well here is a little
program, from a girl named Karen, that will tell you everything
that's installed on, plugged into, and built into your computer.
She has a lot of other great programs too. |

QuickTime
Here is Apples QuickTime movie player I like the best of all the
other players. It doesn't try to take over the whole system like
Windows Media Player or Real Player.
|
| |
|
|
i-Tunes
While we're on the subject of Apple have you checked out i-Tunes
yet. All songs are just .99 cents to down load and keep. You can
even burn them to a CD. It needs Win 2K or XP to work though. |
| |
|
|
Windows
Media Player
Here is where to download the latest version of Windows Media Player.
|
| |
|
|
Real
Player
Here is Real Player. It is probably my least favorite media player.
It hi-jacks your system and won't let it go. I had to do a complete
re-format and new install of the OS to get rid of it. So be warned.

|
Flash
Player
Here is where you'll find Macromedia's Flash Player, if you don't
already have it. Lots of Web developers are using Flash for there
entire Web site. It looks neat, but if you don't have broadband
you may not have an enjoyable experience with these sites. People
are using it a lot for games, short cartoons, and E-cards. |
